The Holy Qur’an, through its diverse narratives, introduces various obstacles that hinder human moral and spiritual development and provides detailed methods for overcoming them. The moral principle of responsibility is one of the ethical teachings extensively reflected in Qur’anic stories, playing a significant role in strengthening and stabilizing both individual and social relationships. The characters portrayed in these narratives demonstrate how responsibility—or the lack thereof—shapes their destinies, vividly embodying both the challenges they encounter and the strategies for confronting them. Given the pedagogical role of Qur’anic stories and the importance of responsibility in shaping individual and collective moral conduct, it is essential to identify and analyze the obstacles to responsibility as presented in these narratives. The present study aims to examine and interpret the barriers and challenges to responsibility illustrated in Qur’anic stories, extracting the ethical lessons and teachings that may contribute to fostering responsibility within contemporary societies. To this end, the study organizes and analyzes the humanistic and moral themes embedded in these stories, highlighting insights that can promote social responsibility and constructive behavior. Employing qualitative textual analysis and comparative approaches, the research explores Qur’anic narratives with special reference to classical and contemporary exegeses, works on social ethics, Qur’anic studies, and the perspectives of Muslim social thinkers. The findings reveal that the Qur’anic stories portray a range of challenges impeding the realization of this noble moral principle and propose methods for their resolution.
