This study, using an analytical-comparative method and relying on the authoritative interpretative sources of the two sects, analyzes the verse “Perhaps you will take away your soul” (Al-Kahf: 6) as a pivot for outlining the style of “emotional leadership” in the life of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). The semantic analysis of the key words of the verse, including “Perhaps” (in the contrast between hope and denial), “take away” (in the sense of destruction from grief), and “self” (in the sense of life and existence), reveals the depth of the Prophet’s (PBUH) responsibility and existential emotion towards guiding the nation. The findings show that there are four main views among Shia and Sunni commentators regarding the noble verse: 1. Divine rebuke to the Prophet (PBUH) due to his intense concern for guiding the people. 2. Manifestation of the Prophet’s (PBUH) compassion and mercy as an inherent characteristic of divine leaders. 3. God comforted the Prophet (PBUH) to reduce his grief. 4. Emphasizing the seriousness of the Prophet (PBUH) in conveying the message, despite the resistance of his opponents. By criticizing the rebuke perspective and constructively integrating three other perspectives, this study presents a systematic model entitled “The Cycle of Prophetic Emotional Leadership,” which includes the stages of “deep compassion,” “jihadi action and perseverance,” “heavy emotional pressure,” and “divine comfort and reinforcement.” The fundamental innovation of the study is in presenting an integrated reading of...
