Abstract
The present study analyzes the cognitive concept of riḍā (contentment) in verses 27–30 of Surah Al-Fajr and explains its role in the uprising of Imam Ḥusayn (a). The main problem addressed in the research is that despite the central importance of riḍā as a symbol of conscious consent and submission in the Qur’an, its connection with the Husaynī uprising has not yet been examined systematically. The necessity of this study arises from the need for an epistemological and Qur’anic understanding of the place of riḍā in the movement of Imam Ḥusayn (a)—a concept that can provide a deeper picture of the relationship between the human being and the divine will. To achieve the research objective, the methodology is based on an integrative approach utilizing qualitative and quantitative content analysis. The selected verses are analyzed with a focus on semantic units, and key concepts related to riḍā are extracted from epistemological and exegetical perspectives. The findings show that the concept of the “tranquil soul” (al-nafs al-muṭmaʾinnah) in these verses represents the complete manifestation of serenity, contentment, and conscious submission to the divine will. This concept highlights the reciprocal relationship between God’s pleasure and the servant’s pleasure—a relationship that reaches its peak in the uprising of Imam Ḥusayn (a). By employing cognitive analysis of the verses and correlating them with the Husaynī movement, this study offers a conceptual framework for a deeper understanding of Qur’anic teachings and for representing the human being’s conscious submission to the divine will.
